You like The Shins, right? Hell yeah! You like Danger Mouse, right? Hell, hell yeah! Well than if this isn’t the darndest piece of good news yet in 2010. You guessed it, collaboration band time. Broken Bells is the latest project by renowned artist/producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and vocalist/guitarist/all-around cool dude James Mercer of The Shins. The pair met way back in 2004 at a music festival in Denmark. Both fans of each other’s work, I imagine the two exchanged numbers and vowed to create an album of the utmost secrecy and relevancy in the not too distant future.
As luck would have it, I imagined right, and in 2008 the duo met up and began writing music together at Burton’s private studio in California. More than a year after their shrouded origins, the group announced not only their existence, but also the release of their debut, self-titled album in March 2010.
In his usual manner, Danger Mouse couldn’t let a part of this project lack mystery. Just a week before the group released their first single, “The High Road,” the band released their first email update which was coded in binary and provided a link to the group’s equally mysterious website which can be viewed here.
Preorders for a deluxe edition, vinyl and cd are now up on the bands site, along with an available limited edition 7” single through Sony Records.
