Lupe Fiasco Turns In Lasers To Atlantic; Speaks Of CRS

'Lasers' now in the hands of the record label.

In the midst of his ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness to those without fresh drinking water and recording “Resurrection” to raise funds for Haiti, Lupe proves that he’s never not working. Lupe also turned in a finished Lasers, his latest LP, to Atlantic Recording January 26. He expressed on Green Lantern’s “Invasion Radio” that he hopes the album releases before this summer. However, Lupe did note that Atlantic has their own processes in releasing an album, picking singles and so forth to do before the new album can be launched. Smartly so, Lupe didn’t give a release date, so there’s no reason to get mad if we don’t hear anything from Lasers until the winter.

We do have two singles already from the album, though - the latest being ‘I’m Beaming.” Lupe talks a little then and now along with the lengths we must travel to learn. That track can be heard below, and you can support Lupe by purchasing the track on iTunes. The first single released last summer and features Matthew Santos - who appeared on Lupe’s “Superstar” for his last album, The Cool. That leaves room for Atlantic to pick another two singles that we will undoubtedly hear prior to Lasers release. Hopefully that is sooner, rather than later.

On another note, Lupe did mention he and Pharrell have four tracks done for the super group Child Rebel Soldiers (CRS) consisting of Lupe, Pharrell and Kanye West. So if we don’t hear anything from Lasers for awhile, hopefully the trio can tease us a bit with a leak or two of the full album they are looking to create for CRS. That is, if Kanye decides to show us if he’s still working on music or simply trying to wear a different fur in every country. Our ears’ first taste of CRS sampled Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser” with a song entitled ‘Us Placers’ back in 2007. That single left us wanting more, so a full length would be like discovering a cache of unreleased Tupac and Biggie recordings in your attic. Maybe not that extreme, but you get the point.
