Where...are my manners? Please forgive me. Three columns in and I have yet to even introduce myself. Rest assured my mother raised me better than that.
My name is Max; I'll be your writer in this particular corner of HEAVE.
On what, exactly? Well, if you've read my last two columns, the coverage pieces of the Chicago International Film Festival (put together by the ever fantastic Dominick Mayer and Amy Dittmeier) and are paying any attention whatsoever; I want to talk to you about film.
By this point, I know I would ask exactly who am I to talk about film?
That requires a touch of history. I was raised by my mom, who always had a love for music and film, naturally rubbing it off onto me as a child. Except I think it's safe to say that I absorbed my mother's love of the arts and took it to an extreme.
At my core, I'm actually a quiet individual. However, many who have met me would argue differently because they've only seen me when the conversation turns to films/TV. Then...I get loud. Just to give a sense of my history with films...
By 5, I had memorized all of “Aladdin”. Not just the songs...all of it.
One of my favorite films I watched growing up (from 6 or so) was “When Harry Met Sally”. My grandparents thought my Mom was crazy to let me watch.
I saw “Pulp Fiction” when I was 9 years old. Probably a bad idea in retrospect, but oh well (Mom was not aware of that one).
Amy has first hand experience on what happens when you get me going on film and TV. I ended up ranting and raving for a solid hour on everything from True Blood (and how “Twilight” ripped them and everyone else off) to the horrible film I had seen at the Festival “Girl on the Train” (do not get me started again). After I stopped to take a breath, Amy chimed in that she thought I should write for the site.
A big shout out to Dominick for bringing me in on the Festival coverage, Amy for suggesting I stay on and Ryan Peters for welcoming me to HEAVE. I've come to discover all those involved in the site are rock stars.
So here I am, with my own column “The 25th Frame” (a cookie for the first person who gets the reference). When I first started thinking on what I wanted to write about, I paused and looked at how I approached discussions of film and TV; passionately. I don't credit myself with much, but I can say that I have passion about this field. I love watching films and TV. I love rewatching them. I love collecting them. Above all, I love talking about and sharing them with others.
It is in that mindset that I hope to create a space here on HEAVE that is more than singular reviews; though it's not out of the question that a review or two may pop up here. My real goal in starting “The 25th Frame” is to create a space where the entertainment industry can be discussed analytically. Whether it be on films, TV, pop culture phenomenons, the moviegoing experience, or themes found in specific films or shows. I hope to present my opinion on various topics of the field to you and incite a reaction, whether you agree or not. After all, half the fun of the experience is the discussion that follows after, not unlike some things in life that I won't spell out here.
Make no mistake; our individual opinions are not always right. Though I will say, when it comes to movies, I usually am. Prove me wrong?

Alyssa loves Weezy so much that she's going to reinact the "Midnight Express" visitation scene. For what it's worth, I'll be doing the same thing.

Oscar Predictions, Round Three
This is the final round, where the winner eats the body of the loser after sexual intercourse. Or wait, maybe that's spiders that do that.

So they're doing a ballet version of some White Stripes songs...that makes sense. It'll probably blow your GD mind.
